Exuberant Botanical Garden created in 1808 by Portuguese prince regent Dom João VI. An ecological sanctuary – its collection includes the exotic Orchidary with 600 different species, medicinal plant garden, aquatic plants; imperial palms, lagoon with water lilies and pau-brasil (brazil wood). The tour continues through the elegant residential area of Lagoa, Jockey Club, Botafogo, and crossing Flamengo Park with its 120 hectares reclaimed to the Bay, gardens projected by famous Brazilian landscaper architect Burle Marx, through charming Urca residential district and delightful view of Rio’s Bay to reach the top of Sugarloaf Mountain in modern bubble-shaped cable cars.
